Funeral Services Set For DAMAGEPLAN's Bodyguard JEFFERY 'MAYHEM' THOMPSON

December 15, 2004

According to Jonesboro, Arkansas' KAIT-TV, funeral services are set for Thursday afternoon (Dec. 16) in Newport, AR for Region 8 native Jeffery Thompson, 40, who died December 8 at a nightclub shooting in Columbus, Ohio. The shooting, which also claimed the life of DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and two others, drew national headlines when a 25-year-old man stormed the stage at a concert and opened gunfire. The suspect was eventually killed by a Columbus police officer.

The 40-year-old Thompson, of Dallas, Texas, was a Newport native and head of security for DAMAGEPLAN. Thompson also worked for several other bands, and was known for his strong personality and love for the arts. He was also an actor who had roles in several commercials, and had also appeared on the CBS television show "Walker: Texas Ranger". Thompson was an avid fan of Scottish traditions, and was very involved in the annual Scarborough Faire Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, Texas. Also a musician, he played the bodhran, a traditional Celtic drum with the bagpipe-based band THE ROGUES, and he also worked for KEGL radio in Dallas.

Thompson is survived by several family members and friends in Newport and Jackson County, as well as Texas.

Memorial services are set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel.
